About Us

Quick-Serve Chinese Food

In the early 1970’s, Tak Chu was working and learning from some of the best chefs in the restaurants of New York City’s Chinatown and Hong Kong. Tak would move to St. Louis, MO with the hopes of one day owning his own place where as head chef he could develop his own unique taste and recipes. Within a few years he opened his first successful restaurant China Peace in St. Louis. He would later move on to Omaha in 1995 and quickly opened Rice Bowl where he put together years of carefully developed recipes. He used his unique abilities to blend the flavors of traditional Chinese food with the tastes of his new American friends and clientele.

Rice Bowl has been a proud Omaha staple for delicious Chinese-American food for (over) 25 years. After years of different partnerships, Rice Bowl is now joined with Tak’s son, Justin Chu and returning to a family owned establishment.

Justin plans on continuing the quality and consistency that Rice Bowl is known for while bringing a fresh outlook to grow Rice Bowl with the next generation. We look forward to growing our families together one meal at a time.

What our customers are saying...

I really enjoy the Rice Bowl.  I usually call ahead to find out what the daily specials are.  The Rice Bowl generally has two daily specials and run about eight dollars, daily specials include two crab Rangoon and choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup.  The hot and sour soup is the way to go it is excellent and very peppery.  It is my second favorite Hot and sour soup in Omaha. The main dish usually comes with a choice of white or fried rice.  This is an small older building and everything on the inside of the dining area seems to be covered in a tiny grease film. I recommend taking your food orders to go. Calling ahead ensures your meal will be ready in the ten to fifteen minute time frame.

We are here while my mom is in the hospital, so not the best circumstances, and was looking for a comfort food place and I don’t think we could’ve chosen a better place!!! Our server was absolutely amazing and attentive and the food was the best Chinese I’ve had in a very long time!!! It was very fresh and quick too!! Next time we are here, I will definitely be stopping by again!! 5/5 would recommend the fried dumplings, egg drop soup, and peanut butter chicken!!!

Rice Bowl has to be one of my all time favorites! Been remaking there since I was an undergrad at Creighton, and while it’s a bit out of the way now, I still try to get there regularly for some hot and sour soup and to try the wide assortment of entries that are made when ordered! It’s a great spot for reasonably priced tasty fast casual Chinese food in Omaha!

I’ve almost stopped going out for Chinese food because there is so much bad quality fast Chinese. Rice Bowl looked like a dive from the outside and I almost turned away. Instead, I went in an enjoyed the BEST Chinese I have had in at least a decade. My server was absolutely lovely, the food was so fresh and spicy, and my leftovers were a treat the next day. Rice Bowl will be on my list whenever I am in Omaha.

Tried Rice Bowl for the first time last week after reading great reviews on Omaha Food Lovers page. It is now my NEW favorite place. Not only is the food delicious and kid approved (even my picky child Loves it) it’s ridiculously affordable. Not to mention the portions are fairly large! We are use to eating Chinese out west. What we ordered at Rice Bowl was around $40 not including the tip. Out west it would have easily been $60-70. I’m so impressed!! Will recommend to everyone 🙂
